Album Review: Hybrid Spirits – “Mirage”

Hybrid Spirits is a British band that first released their debut album “Astral Whispers” two years ago, followed by “Fear”on the very spooky day the 31st of October 2019. Now, as we’re waiting for the official release, also on the 31st of October, we were lucky to have had a sneak peek on their third release, “Mirage”, in which vocals, guitars and synths meet and give a new direction, varying from dark to light while also being dramatic. This time, the EP features Voodoo Jade on lead vocals, Paul Kirk on guitars, synths and programming , and Nigel Rooke on backing vocals, synths and programming.

I was quite impressed by their cover for this new EP showing a man in the dessert this way introducing their first track, “Mirage” which perfectly combines elements of a gothic stage musical with powerful and dramatic consequences whilst conjouring up stark images of devastation and chaos… in the desert.

Going on, the next song, ‘Misteria-Hysteria’ is perfect for Halloween and fans of horror films, being their hommage for horror movies. The starting and ending of the song are as well surprising as they are spoken and we can recognise Late Boris Karloff from the film “Black Sabbath” (intro) and Late Bela Lugosi from the film “The Black Cat” (outro).

My personal favourite track is the third one, “Rain or Shine”, an uplifting song of hope and sunshine, written during the Covid-19 pandemic as a song of solidarity and hope. It was released as a charity single on 17th of July 2020 to raise money for the International Committee of The Red Cross!! If you’re wishing to buy this song in order to contribute to our charitable cause (donations accepted until 30th of April 2021), please buy the single version (released on 17th of July 2020) and view the information on the Bandcamp link for “Rain or Shine (Charity Single)”, as purchases via this EP do not qualify!!

The last track, “La vie en Rose et Noire” is an amazing closing to the album, giving us the view of an initially happy event that goes totally wrong while mixing in an extraordinary way electronic music with melodic guitar.

So, on the 31st of October the EP “Mirage” by the band Hibrid Spirits will be available on Bandcamp (or you can already pre-order it) here and on all streaming platforms: Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play, Tidal, Deezer and Pandora amongst other streaming sites.
